Miss Parsons joined the staff in 1955 from Newark High School to become Head of Domestic Science. She retired in 1982. The school gained considerably from the part she played in the teaching and appreciation of her subject. The practical work her girls did for the O' and A' level examinations and for school functions was a joy to behold.

Many girls must be grateful for the training and sense of success she gave them.

Miss Parsons designed and supervised the making of costumes for all school productions. In this, she was helped by loyal teams of girls and she herself often worked into the early hours. The results were well worth all the effort. Furthermore, she acted as a liason between the school and the Parents' Guild for several years.

Miss Parsons was a knowledgeable gardener. In retirement she was able to devote more time to her own garden and visiting well-known gardens throughout the country. As other staff have done in retirement, she took up painting which gave her pleasure. Her main interest, above all else, was in her family which is a close and loving one. The lives of her three nephews and their young families meant a great deal to her.

She will be very sadly missed by them all.

Her illness came on suddenly. She bore it philosophically and with great courage. She died in the Hospice on March 4th and her funeral took place on her 80th birthday.

Those who knew Margaret Parsons remember her with respect and affection.
