In August 2016 we heard that one of our Old Girls had committed suicide the day after she heard that she had not acheived the grades she needed for her place at Durham University. Her acceptance by her second choice. Edinburgh University, did not console her.

Harpreet had done brilliantly at GCSE getting one A and nine A* grades. She studied for A levels in History, Russian and Latin, hoping to get the two A* grades and one A she needed to study Russian and History at Durham.

During her upper sixth year she got stressed and depressed, took an overdose in the February of her exam year and was referred for counselling.

Report from the Aisian Age Network and Shropshire Star

  • She is one of our own and we remember her with sadness.
  • Please submit any tributes to me - happier tales of her time at WGHS - and I will add them to this page.
